The acronym NAIDOC stands for National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee and became a week long Australian observance that runs from the first Sunday in July. Started in1975 to recognise the 1938 Day of Mourning.
When is NAIDOC Week in 2026?
Running from Sunday July 5th through to Sunday July 12th, Brisbane will be hosting a multitude of events observe first nations peoples, supporting reconciliation and celebrating their strength, culture and pride.

The theme for NAIDOC week 2026 is “50 years of Deadly”, marking 50 years of NAIDOC week and the celebration of our first nations strength, pride, history and culture.
