Silver Tongue Foods - An interview with Kristina Kucan

March 13, 2024

After losing her construction job at the beginning of the COVID pandemic, Kristina wasted no time moping, and instead dragged her beloved Grandma's sourdough starter out of the back of her fridge. Her Uncle had been a master baker back in Croatia and on one fateful summer trip, he had taught Kristina the art of baking bread.

We consume quite a lot of Kristina's crackers whenever a slice of cheese, a dip, or some pâté is pulled out of the fridge, so we were thrilled that she had time to answer some of our probing questions.

We know small business is hard. Is there an inception story to your brand? What got you started or gave you the push to start your own enterprise?

Embarking on the journey of creating Silver Tongue Foods was not just a decision; it was a calling. The inception of our brand sprouted from a deep-seated passion for flavours and an unwavering belief in the power of quality ingredients with a strong focus on my heritage.

Small businesses indeed come with their challenges, but for me, it was the pursuit of crafting exceptional food experiences that fuelled my entrepreneurial spirit.

Silver Tongue Foods is not just a business; it is a manifestation of our foodie dreams.

Who or what do you draw inspiration from?

Inspiration, for me, is a mosaic drawn from diverse sources. Nature's bounty, cultural richness, and the vibrant tapestry of everyday life serve as my muse. The incredible artisans who have carved their paths in the industry also play a pivotal role in shaping my creativity. It is the amalgamation of these influences that breathes life into our unique offerings.

Other than yourself of course, who is your favourite artisan producer here in Australia? How come?

Australia is a treasure trove of culinary brilliance, and singling out a favourite artisan producer is not easy. However, if pressed to choose, we would tip our hats to Saucy Wench. Each product they create tells a story, and we find inspiration in their journey, making them a standout artisan.

We know Australia is the best place on earth, but what makes it so special to you? What’s your favourite thing about Australia?

What truly makes Australia special is the people, the unique blend of cultures, and the spirit of mateship that defines the Aussie way of life. It is this sense of belonging and community that infuses our products with a touch of Australian magic.

Which of your products are your favourite to gift to others or share with friends around the table?

Choosing a favourite among our creations is akin to picking a favourite child, but if I had to share the joy encapsulated in one product, it would be our Cowboy Kisses. The blend of the spices with the crispy jalapenos creates a flavour that is unique and exciting. Whether gifted to a friend or shared around the table, Cowboy Kisses encapsulates the essence of Silver Tongue Foods – a commitment to unique flavours and a celebration of shared moments around good food.
