Rory Smith is a man who follows his passions. His love of film lead to him becoming a TV & Video editor, and his love of great booze lead him to starting both a distribution company and, most recently, his own gin distillery. Mayfield Chocolates has been tempering, conching and experimenting with chocolate since 1993, and has well and truly become an institution for chocoholics across Australia. Lifelong food obsessive, Lizzie Hewson, was studying her Masters in Food Culture & Communication at the University of Gastronomic Science in Piedmont, Italy when she caught the pasta bug. Following a particularly troubling bout of anxiety, Lizzie created a weekly ritual that would ground her and bring the racing thoughts back to earth. This was the beginning of Saturday Night Pasta.
We consider Michelle Mascher to be a true food hero, and so should you. For the past four years or so Michelle's amazing business, Ugly Duck Fine Foods, has been rescuing 'ugly' food rejected by supermarkets & other retailers, and turning it into amazing fruit pastes and spreads. We managed to steal Michelle away from her kitchen to pick her brain and see what makes her tick.
We are doing something a little different for this blog post. Normally we send out a list of questions for our producers to answer at their leisure and in their own time. However, Sarah Gan, of Ugly Food & Co. was less interested in this style of interview and instead asked if I could conduct it in person. Considering I am addicted to her crunchy chilli oil, I was happy to acquiesce.
